Initially, Sickels planned to move his pizza shop from White Oak into the former Map Room space. But after checking out the kitchen, he realized it was much too small for what he needed to make his pizza. Thus, the idea for something completely distinctive was born. On the snacks and small plates front, we started with an order of crab and bacon hushpuppies, beef tartare, and foie gras nigiri which was a limited special during our visit. Hemlock House is located in the former Map Room space in Regent Square, and originally Sickels was thinking of moving the pizzeria to that location.
For those who love interesting flavors with perfectly cooked pasta, this one is a gem. The foie gras nigiri was an interesting one for a limited run menu item and was all about the texture- delectably smooth foie gras served on top of rice was the picture of decadence all around.
In response to these constraints, the design team installed mockups over a winter season to test material resiliency. The home features 3 fully updated bedrooms on the main floor with a King bed in all 3, and 3 full baths. Sickles and his team set to work on Hemlock House last fall, with the plan to open in March. However, permitting and liquor license delays put a hold on the launch. Hemlock House still doesn’t have its liquor license, but Sickles felt they couldn’t wait around for it to open the restaurant.
